Description

This Amish Hamburger Steak Bake is a comforting casserole filled with juicy hamburger steak, creamy mushroom soup, and a golden layer of mashed potatoes, perfect for potlucks and family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 2 cups cooked mashed potatoes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, diced onion, milk, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into patties.
  3. In a baking dish, place the hamburger patties.
  4. Spread the cream of mushroom soup over the patties.
  5. Layer the cooked mashed potatoes on top of the soup.
  6. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the meat is cooked through.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes to brown the top.
  8. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

For lower sodium or calories, use low-sodium soup and leaner beef. Chilling the mixture before shaping patties can improve texture.
