Description

Crispy, golden-brown donuts made from fluffy waffle batter, bursting with tender apples and a hint of spice, dusted with powdered sugar.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups diced apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional—walnuts or pecans work well)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and sugar.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and vanilla extract until well blended.
  3. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined, avoiding overmixing.
  4. Fold in the diced apples and chopped nuts (if using) until evenly distributed.
  5. Preheat your waffle iron and lightly grease it with cooking spray or oil.
  6. Pour the batter into the heated waffle iron, close the lid, and cook until the waffles are golden brown, about 4-5 minutes.
  7. Meanwhile, heat 2-3 inches of oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat.
  8. Carefully cut the cooked waffle into donut shapes using a donut cutter or round cookie cutter and fry the pieces in hot oil for about 1-2 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
  9. Remove from oil and let cool slightly on a paper towel, then dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar, or drizzle with honey. Pairs well with coffee or tea.
