Description
Crispy, golden-brown donuts made from fluffy waffle batter, bursting with tender apples and a hint of spice, dusted with powdered sugar.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups diced apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional—walnuts or pecans work well)
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and sugar.
- In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and vanilla extract until well blended.
- Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined, avoiding overmixing.
- Fold in the diced apples and chopped nuts (if using) until evenly distributed.
- Preheat your waffle iron and lightly grease it with cooking spray or oil.
- Pour the batter into the heated waffle iron, close the lid, and cook until the waffles are golden brown, about 4-5 minutes.
- Meanwhile, heat 2-3 inches of oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat.
- Carefully cut the cooked waffle into donut shapes using a donut cutter or round cookie cutter and fry the pieces in hot oil for about 1-2 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
- Remove from oil and let cool slightly on a paper towel, then dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar, or drizzle with honey. Pairs well with coffee or tea.
