Description
A comforting baked apple crumble with a crunchy oat topping and tender baked apples, perfect for cozy gatherings or weekend desserts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups apples, peeled and sliced (about 4 medium apples)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup butter, softened (about 1 stick / 113 g)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, and cinnamon until evenly coated.
- Spread the apple mixture in a greased baking dish (an 8×8-inch or similar-sized dish works well).
- In another bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, softened butter, granulated sugar, and salt. Use a pastry cutter, two forks, or your fingertips to rub the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples, covering them completely.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30–35 minutes or until the apples are soft and the top is golden brown and crisp.
- Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or custard.
Notes
For a tarter filling, use 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or reduce brown sugar by 1–2 tablespoons. If the topping browns too quickly, tent loosely with foil for the last 5–10 minutes.
