Description

A comforting baked apple crumble with a crunchy oat topping and tender baked apples, perfect for cozy gatherings or weekend desserts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups apples, peeled and sliced (about 4 medium apples)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened (about 1 stick / 113 g)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, and cinnamon until evenly coated.
  3. Spread the apple mixture in a greased baking dish (an 8×8-inch or similar-sized dish works well).
  4. In another bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, softened butter, granulated sugar, and salt. Use a pastry cutter, two forks, or your fingertips to rub the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples, covering them completely.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30–35 minutes or until the apples are soft and the top is golden brown and crisp.
  7. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or custard.

Notes

For a tarter filling, use 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or reduce brown sugar by 1–2 tablespoons. If the topping browns too quickly, tent loosely with foil for the last 5–10 minutes.
