Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups mini chocolate chips
  • Bear-shaped cookie cutters

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, then fold in the mini chocolate chips.
  6. Roll out the dough and use bear-shaped cookie cutters to cut out cookies.
  7. Place the cutouts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until edges are golden.
  9. Allow to cool before decorating if desired.

Notes

For softer cookies, use more brown sugar and avoid overbaking. Optional chilling time for dough can yield better results.
