Description
A comforting fried chicken recipe that brings nostalgia and flavor to the dinner table.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 pieces of chicken (legs or thighs)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Vegetable oil (enough for deep frying)
Instructions
- Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, combine buttermilk, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken pieces, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for optimal flavor).
- Prepare the Coating: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, cayenne pepper, and salt.
- Heat the Oil: In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Coat the Chicken: Remove chicken from the buttermilk marinade, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.
- Fry the Chicken: Carefully place coated chicken pieces in the hot oil. Fry for about 7-8 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 75°C).
- Drain and Serve: Transfer fried chicken to a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil. Allow to rest for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
To ensure the perfect crispy texture, avoid overcrowding the pan and ensure the oil is hot enough before frying.
